PROFESSIONAL SKILLS PAY
Hello friends, I was about to write on something else, when while I was on my way to a friends place, I met my aunty's daughter at home smiled to me from teeth-to-teeth, with great passion because it has been long we saw. So I asked her, how she was faring and what she was doing at the moment since she had completed her HIGH SCHOOL EXAMS, she answered, "nothing" at the moment, so I was curious and I asked why?, then she replied thus "I am waiting to take my UTME next year", next year I exclaimed! That is too long a time for me, and for a girl I think, it will not be fair to see her waste at home almost six-months or there about. So I asked her why she would not go and use the time to learn something, she said 'I want to but mummy', why I asked, she couldn't profer me with an answer, lucky as it were, my aunt came out and we discussed, and she said that my neice, is a good hair stylist, hair stylist? Wow!, and that led me to write on this issue.
WHAT ARE PROFESSIONAL SKILLS?
Professional skills are those skills, which you learn and they become part of you like you yourself. These are the skills we all know as "hand-work", because they are practical in nature and are skills you can do, even if you were woken up from sleep. These skills are highly technical, and highly sort-after! The pride of it is that, it enables you to at a point in time be your own boss and run your show, and also to become the employer of labour.
WHAT ARE THESE SKILLS?
the list is enless, as they are very many, but I will mention a few. These includes
1.Hair Dressing
2.Fashion Designing
3.Tailoring
4.Make-up expert
5.Hair Barbing
6.Shoe-cubbler
6.Auto-mechanics
7.Bead-making (i.e necklace, bag, earrings,slippers,rings pendants, etc)
8.Welder
9.Caterer
10.Gen-set, plants, repairer
11.Rewinder
12.Furniturer
13.Carpentering
14.Engineers (i.e GSM,Desktop, Laptop, Pamtop,notebook repairs and maintainers)
15.Electronics engineers (i.e TV, Radio, DVD, VCD,Video, Mixers, Speakers, repairers etc)
16.Sound Engineers (i.e Sound producers for muscians)
17.Digital Photographing/producer of Movie and Musics, and Directors and editing etc

19.Body-fillers (i.e Car Body-fillers)

WHY PROFESSIONAL SKILLS?
I must say, that this is a challenging question, but I will try to answer the question in two phase
1.Professional skills in the corporate world
2.Professional skills in the entreprenueral world.
PROFESIONAL SKILLS IN THE CORPORATE WORLD
It, is no more news that there are no job security this days, but what will make some people stands out, when a company want to do some downsizing of staff strenght, will depend on the efficiency of a staff. This include a staff professional credentials. What do I mean? I must let you know that it is not enough this days to be an OND, HND, B.Sc, P.hd etc holder. Today, companies are not looking at what you have but WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH WHAT YOU HAVE. Now, this is a hard truth you must realise now; to your good credentials you must try to match it with professionalism on either your career by learning practically wide, upgrading yourself outside the school domain.
You must know the in and out of your professional skills, latest ideas, technologies,software,material, and how to better and sharpen your skills the more, for you to be able to compete even with your professional skills, because there are competitors out there. One more thing I must let you know is that no professional body will give you a professional certificate without critical scrutinizing of your ability to see whether you merit to be awarded a professional certificate.
WHAT WILL IT DO FOR YOU?
In just some few words, it will make you more efficient and an essential comodity to the industry that will need your service, better still put you ahead of your co-workers. Yes your co-workers I say, because I must let you know, it is not everybody that will be entreprenuers, or company owners, many will be company managers in various key positions, some will succeed as staff of a company with thier indepth skills and professionality in something that will stand them out, so if you fall in this category go and sharpen your skills for bigger challenges to EARN BIG!
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AS AN ENTREPRENEUR
To be at the top of your game, you need to be an expertise in your field, nobody will patronise your services, products, etc, if you are not good. If you seek to be an entrepreneur, or a company owner,in any or one or two of the above listed skills, you will need more than your school certificates you might have gathered from school, as being a professional skill personel in the above list doesn't require education, but interest, passion, determination, drive,commitment of both time and energy, both in research findings,practical learning and implementation to make all the difference to be able to be on top of your game.
One good thing is that making money, do not need your education, because your certificates will not give you money, but what you do with the skills you have, this will put money in your bank account. Today, people with administrative skills have now make a U-turn to learning other professional practical hand work, against the unknown that could happen, there by learning from their predesessors. Don't be a spectator while learning, learn to know, not to cram, because this is not your conventional school, your hands and brains must know something very well I think that is plain enough!
